How to Install Norton Antivirus
The Norton Security suite provides antivirus and firewall protection for both MacOS and Windows devices, and is available for a yearly subscription fee that varies based on your level of protection as well as some other factors. In order to install Norton, you must first have an active account and have already purchased the software.
The instructions below apply to all versions of the Windows operating system and MacOS.
How to Install Norton Antivirus on Windows
If you're a new user installing Norton Security for the first time or a returning customer who is reinstalling the software after removing it from your PC previously, follow the steps below.
Open a web browser and navigate to norton.com/setup.
Enter your Norton account credentials, if prompted.
Norton's Get Started page should now be visible, as shown in the accompanying screenshot. Select the Download Norton option.

Click Agree & Download, located below the Install On This Device header.

The Norton setup file should now be downloaded to your browser's default location, typically the Windows Downloads folder or your desktop. Once the download is complete, locate the file and open it to begin the installation process.

The My Norton Down loader application should now appear. Once the necessary files are downloaded, a Windows User Account Control warning will be displayed, asking if you want to allow the Norton Security app to make changes to your device. Click Yes to continue.
Norton Security may not function as expected if you already have another vendor's antivirus or malware protection software on your computer. If the Application Compatibility Check detects one or more of these software packages, Norton will offer you the option to uninstall them before continuing. We recommend doing so, although you are provided the option to skip and continue if you wish.
The My Norton Installer interface will now be displayed. Click Install.

By selecting Install, you are agreeing to Norton's License Agreement. This agreement can be viewed beforehand by clicking on its accompanying link.
The Device Security package will now be installed. A slideshow is presented during the installation process, detailing some of the dangers that Norton protects you from. This process can take several minutes, depending on the speed of your computer.

The Norton Security Toolbar will be added to your default web browser during this process. You can choose to disable or remove this browser add-on, although we recommend leaving it as-is.
Next, a message will appear that states 'Communicating with the Norton server...' This will be shown for 1-2 minutes and will then change to read 'Activating...'. Once successfully activated, the Installer window will inform you that your device is now protected, disappearing a few seconds later.
The Norton Security application will now open, welcoming you and offering a tour of its features. Select the Start Tour button if you like, or click on Skip Tour to continue.

The Norton Security dashboard should now be displayed, showing your protection and recent scan status. From here you can manage Norton's settings, view your subscription status, initiate manual virus scans and much more.
How to Install Norton Antivirus on MacOS
If you're installing Norton Security on your Mac for the first time or are a returning customer reinstalling the software after previously removing it, follow the steps below.
Open a web browser and navigate to Norton.com/setup.
Enter your Norton account credentials, if prompted.
Norton's Get Started page should now be visible, as shown in the accompanying screenshot. Select the Download Norton option.

A .zip file should now be downloaded to your browser's default location, typically the Downloads folder or your desktop. Once the download is complete, locate the file and open it to extract the Install Norton Security folder.
Open the Install Norton Security application, found within the newly-extracted folder, by double-clicking on it.

Depending on your Mac's security settings, you may see a warning message noting that Install Norton Security is an app downloaded from the Internet. Click the Open button that accompanies this message.
Norton Security may not function as expected if you already have another vendor's antivirus or malware protection software on your computer. If the Application Compatibility Check detects one or more of these software packages, Norton will offer you the option to uninstall them before continuing. We recommend doing so, although you are provided the option to skip and continue if you wish.
The My Norton Installer interface will now be displayed. Click Install.

By selecting Install, you are agreeing to Norton's License Agreement and Privacy Policy. This agreement can be viewed beforehand by clicking on its accompanying link.
The Device Security installation will now take place, with a slideshow presented throughout the process that details some of the dangers that Norton protects you from.
A message will now appear stating that a helper tool is needed to install Norton. Enter your macOS account password in the field provided and click Install Helper to continue.

You may also receive a message informing you that a system extension has been blocked. If so, click Open Security Preferences and select Allow. Close the Security & Privacy Preferences window to continue with the installation process.
If successful, the Norton Security interface will appear, containing the following message: 'Norton Security is installed on this device.' At this point you'll be asked if you'd like to install Norton on an additional device. Click Skip.
